Updated: Blast in Omaha Plant Sends Several to Hospital, Kills 2

Posted: Updated:

Two people were killed at an Omaha manufacturing plant Monday after an explosion that caused much of the building to collapse.

Omaha police have identified one of the two men killed at the International Nutrition plant in south-central Omaha. Authorities say the body of 53-year-old Keith Everett was recovered Monday evening.

The other body remains inside the plant, which had its second and third floors collapse onto the first floor after key structural supports failed following the blast. Rescuers plan to renew their extraction efforts Tuesday morning.

Besides the two people who were killed, 10 other workers at the plant were hospitalized.

At least four of those 10 workers have already been released.

Bergan Mercy Medical Center says two of the three workers sent there were treated and released.

The Nebraska Medical Center says two workers sent there were treated for minor injuries and then released. The hospital also says it treated a firefighter and released him.

Authorities say seven other workers were treated at the scene.

Interim Omaha Fire Chief Bernie Kanger says it could be weeks before investigators are able to determine what caused the incident.
