Suspected Vandal Arrested in Shooting Spree

Posted: Updated:

A Grand Island man was arrested Monday for shooting out dozens of windows across Grand Island over the weekend.

Captain Dean Elliot said the damage stretches north to Capital Avenue and south to Highway 34.

Elliot said police continue to take reports, but had more than 50 cases of vandalism by Monday afternoon.

He said an investigation led to 19-year-old Patrick Jensen. Jensen was booked into the Hall County Jail for felony criminal mischief and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

"In the contact with him, two BB guns were recovered as well as other items of evidentiary value," said Elliot.

It's not yet known how much vandalism Jensen could be responsible for.

Victoria Kranz's vehicle was parked on the street outside her house near the center of the city when her window was shot out more than a week ago. It will cost her about $200 to fix.

"The driver's side window had been shot with a BB gun," said Kranz. "This has been about the third time that it's been shot out. We've had a couple of incidents, paintballs, bricks, things like that in the neighborhood too."

Police said unless you have a garage to park your vehicle in, there's little you can do to prevent this from happening to you.

"There's no rhyme or reason as to why they're doing what they're doing. There's no monetary value," said Elliot.

He said two other people were arrested over the weekend after BB guns were also found in their vehicles.

For now police said that is unrelated, but they're looking into the possibility that these could also be suspects in the latest cases of vandalism.
