Updated: North Platte Police Arrest Man on Attempted Murder Charge

Posted: Updated:

Police have amended charges against a man arrested early Thursday morning after an altercation outside a North Platte home from attempted first degree murder to attempted second degree assault and terroristic threats.

Todd Warren, 46, was taken to the Lincoln County Detention Center after police arrived at another man's home to find Warren and the resident of the home on the ground struggling with each other.

Officers say they had to chase Warren when he fled on foot, but were able to subdue him a short time later. He was transported to the hospital before being taken to jail. He was treated for lacerations to his right hand and then released.

Initially Warren was facing charges of attempted first degree murder and resisting arrest, but officers later amended those charges.

Police did not release the name of the victim, who told police another man was with Warren when he was being attacked.

The 51-year-old victim told police the pair were outside his home trying to break the windows on his car. He says Warren left, but then returned several minutes later when he heard what sounded like fireworks outside.

Authorities said he told them both men began attacking him when he went outside. He said Warren was punching, kicking and choking him while the other man tried to strike him with a large knife.

Police have not released the name of the second suspect and no additional charges have been filed.

The investigation is ongoing.
