Student at a northern Colorado high school were faced with a disturbing scene after a 16-year-old student set himself on fire.
A police investigator described what happened.
Cheri Spottke of the Westminster, Colo. Police said "between 7:00 and 7:30 this morning, a male student entered Standley Lake High School cafeteria. He proceeded to light himself on fire."
The fire did not spread to other areas of the building and was put out a short while later.
"It was contained to the cafeteria area," said Spottke. "Two cafeteria workers were able to get a fire extinguisher and extinguish the fire fairly quickly."
The student suffered burns on more than 80 percent of his body and is in critical condition. A school employee also suffered minor injuries trying to grab a fire extinguisher out of its glass container.
Local news station KUSA labeled the incident a suicide attempt and reported the student left a suicide note on social media.
