This week we honor a Nebraska native who continued to serve our country's veterans long after his time in the Army.
Bill Herron was the youngest of three boys to join the Army during times of war, originally from the Dickens and Maywood area.
Bill was training for the Paratroopers when he was injured. He was hospitalized in Memphis, Tennessee where he ended up meeting his wife Jean.
After his honorable discharge Bill continued his service to our country's heroes as a Veteran Service Officer in Lexington and later in North Platte for nearly 20 years. He was also a past commander of the North Platte Legion Club.
His daughter Billie said he was very passionate about helping our veterans get their benefits and wanted to see their families taken care of.
Bill thank you for your service to our country and to our veterans.
