Rep. Smith Officially Files for Re-election

Posted: Updated:

Rep. Adrian Smith has officially filed for re-election to represent Nebraska's Third District in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Smith, of Gering, has been a representative for the Third District since 2007. His office says that in that time he has worked to reduce the size and scope of federal government, and has advocated for issues facing rural Nebraska and agriculture.

Smith says he will fight for "commonsense" solutions to promote economic growth, and "to stop the federal government from harassing farmers, ranchers, and entrepreneurs."

Smith said while progress has been made in the budget conversation, there is still "much more work to be done" -- specifically citing the $17 trillion U.S. debt, so-called Obamacare and new industry-impacting regulations.

"Third District residents know what is at stake in this election," concluded Smith in a statement Tuesday. "I invite Nebraskans from South Sioux City and Falls City in the east to Harrison and Benkelman in the west to join us as we continue to fight back, and put America on a stronger path."
