AAA Closes Kearney Branch, Grand Island Remains Open

Posted: Updated:

AAA quietly closed ten branches in four states this past week, including the one in Kearney.

It's a case of declining foot traffic, and an increase in the use of technology causing these brick and mortar closures.

Patrons stopping in for maps and other resources at the Kearney office will read 'This Office Closed' posted on the door. Employees and AAA members were notified of the branch closure after Christmas.

More than ever AAA utilizes their automated phone systems, and most members have web access, too. Still, everything from emergency roadside assistance to those handy road maps will remain available.

"It's just a matter of preferences have changed or how people have obtained services and products, and we have expanded that offering to many products and services are available online, even through programmable downloadable programs offered by AAA," said AAA Nebraska's Public Affairs Director Rose White. "But of course many do prefer picking up the phone in the convenience of home and obtain services they require."

Three employees were able to transfer to other offices, including two at the Grand Island office which continues walk in service.
