Volunteer Fire Department Looks to Community for Future Projects

Posted: Updated:

The tables are turned as the Pleasanton Volunteer Fire Department depends on their community to help fund three major purchases.

The 25 member department hopes to replace their 50 year old grass rig, buy a new Jaws of Life, and graveside markers to honor past members.

Pleasanton's volunteers cover about 150 square miles, and officials say Sunday's fundraiser not only brings in money, but could also new ideas.

"The community can come in, see what we're doing, see the tools that we're purchasing," said Fire Chief Michael Unick. "And just to come in and share a breakfast together and discuss new ideas and future possible enrollments to the fire department and it's always a fun morning."

Sunday's pancake feed served 330 people, and organizers say donations met expectations.

The Jaws of Life have already been purchased, and their new grass rig could be bought by the end of the year.
