A Loup City man has been given more than three years in federal prison for filing false tax returns.
U.S. District Judge Richard Kopf sentenced 53-year-old Rodney Moraczewski to 41 months in federal prison on Thursday. Kopf also ordered Moraczewski to serve three years supervised release following his release from prison and to pay nearly $300,000 to the IRS.
The United States Attorney's Office says Moraczewski pled guilty in November to felony
charges of filing a false federal tax return and identity theft. They said he filed ten false returns in his name and in the names of other people between 2009 and 2010.
The restitution owed by Moraczewski is the amount the IRS paid out to him for those returns.
The case was investigated by Internal Revenue Service, the
Nebraska Department of Revenue, and the Sherman County Sheriff's Department.
