The Hastings Salvation Army is asking the public for help as more families turn to them for help due to food stamp reductions and high energy bills.
The Salvation Army says they have experienced a significant increase in pantry requests from local families. The Hastings Food Pantry is the first stop, but the Salvation Army works to provide emergency food supplies to those who really need it.
The Salvation Army also provides food for families that have been impacted by an unexpected change, such as the reduction in food stamp provisions.
Officials are looking for food and financial donations as many of these families are also facing high energy bills because of the extreme cold winter temperatures and the high propane costs.
The Hastings Salvation Army has designated limited funds for propane assistance and already provides services that include rental assistance, utility assistance and other means to help struggling families.
