A former Lexington teacher is trying for a seat in the state legislature.
Luis Sotelo officially kicked off his campaign for the 36th district on Saturday.
He says he's focused on bringing the community together.
His focus is education, but also giving a voice to his district.
"I'm just going to serve as your representative, as a voice, as a catalyst to get people thinking how can we do things better," said candidate Luis Sotelo. "How can we solve our issues, because it's not the Senator's issue and it's not, it's our issues and it's our responsibility to build strong communities."
Congressional candidate Mark Sullivan and Senate candidate Dave Domina were also in attendance at the kick-off.
