A spokesperson for Sears Holding Corporation says the Kmart store in Grand Island will shut its doors this summer.
The store will remain open for customers and begin a liquidation sale on March 16 before it closes to the public in early June.
The company says closures are to reduce expenses and "accelerate the transformation of our business model."
Fifty-five employees work at the Grand Island store. They will be eligible for severance or apply for positions at other Kmart stores or Sears stores. The spokesperson says most associates at the store are part-time or hourly.
