Things got more hectic at an already busy Fonner Park Saturday evening when
a fire started near the Fonner offices.
Grand Island firefighters responded to a small fire in an electrical room of
the 4-H Café around 7 p.m.
That part of the building was unoccupied, and no other areas were evacuated.
Maintenance workers used a fire extinguisher to stop the flames from
spreading any farther.
"Unknown the exact cause right now, it's still under investigation, but not
a lot of damage, mostly to the electrical panels, and it was confined to that
room only," says GIFD Capt. Ed Carlin.
Carlin says no one was injured.
Fonner Park management declined to comment on the incident, only to say they
will continue working with GIFD to find out what started the fire.
