Family of Crash Victim Sues State and Inmate Driver

Posted: Updated:

A victim's relatives have filed suit against the state of Nebraska over a fatal crash in Lincoln involving a state-owned van driven by an inmate.

The lawsuit was filed last week against the state and the inmate driver, 36-year-old Jeremy Dobbe.

47-year-old Joyce Meeks was killed in the crash and Dobbe was charged with manslaughter.

Meek's husband Leonard and son, Martell Buchanan, claim the state was negligent for letting Dobbe drive the van that hit Joyce Meeks' vehicle on June 25 last year.

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services has since ended the prison-driver program.
