Governor Heineman has called on law-makers to reduce the taxable value of farm and ranch land.
The governor said he would also support proposals to increase funding for Nebraska's property-tax credit fund. The fund is used to offset property tax bills state-wide.
Farm advocates believe reducing the taxable value of agricultural land would help farmers and ranchers. Opponents disagree and argue it would lessen the local tax base for schools and would do little to help urban residents.
