The lawyer for a teen accused of helping another teen inmate attack a
Scotts Bluff County jail guard earlier this month says his client
didn't intend for her to die or be seriously injured.
Madelung, the attorney for 16-year-old Guy Eagle Elk told a judge
Thursday that the teen had only shown 15-year-old Dylan Cardeilhac how to
choke the guard into unconsciousness so her jail keys could be taken.
Elk, of Lisco, Neb., is charged with aiding and abetting in the death
of 24-year-old Amanda Baker on Feb. 14.
Cardeilhac, of Torrington, Wyo.,
is charged with first-degree murder in the case. Authorities say he lured Baker
into his cell and strangled her from behind. Baker died a few days later after doctors had declared her brain dead.
Both teens are charged as adults.
judge ordered Eagle Elk's case advanced to district court for trial.
An arraignment hearing has been set for Cardeilhac on March 17.
