North Platte Man Faces Child Abuse Charge, Accused of Shaking Toddler

Posted: Updated:

A North Platte man has turned himself in to police and faces charges of child abuse following the hospitalization of a 17-month-old boy last month.

Authorities say the 21-year-old injured his girlfriend's son on Feb. 18.

Lexington Police Chief Tracy Wolf says the boy had bleeding in his skull and several bruises that couldn't be explained by the man's explanation that he fell on top of the toddler.

Doctors determined the injuries were likely caused by severe shaking.

The man was released on bond and is scheduled to be arraigned in court March 11.
