Kansaslegislative committees plan to debate school funding proposals this week inresponse to a court mandate to boost state aid to poor districts.
ASenate Ways and Means subcommittee convened Monday morning to discuss K-through-12spending proposals. The full committee could consider the proposals as early asTuesday.
TheHouse Appropriations Committee has planned a briefing on Tuesday from AttorneyGeneral Derek Schmidt on the Kansas Supreme Court's recent ruling in a lawsuitfiled by parents and school districts.
Thecourt said past cuts in aid to poor school districts created unconstitutionalgaps in funding between them and wealthier districts and ordered lawmakers tofix the problem by July 1.
The House committee plans to discuss school fundingproposals Thursday.
