NU Board to Vote on Interim President at Upcoming Meeting

The University of Nebraska Board of Regents is considering appointing an interim president for the university to take over when current President James B. Milliken leaves for a job in New York.

The board will discuss making Dr. James Linder, of Omaha, the interim president at its March 21 meeting. Linder would not be a candidate for the permanent position.

Linder currently serves part-time as senior associate to thepresident of the University of Nebraska for innovation and economiccompetitiveness and as president of the University Technology DevelopmentCorporation.

If his appointment is approved by the board, Linder willbecome a full-time employee of the university on April 1, and his title willbecome interim president-elect. The interim position would become effective May 3rd.

Linder is expected to remain interim president until thenational search for Milliken's successor is successfully completed and apermanent president begins.

During its March 21 meeting, the board will also begin work on appointing members to the two committees that will assist with the national search for the next NU president.

Both committees, the Presidential Search Outreach andAdvisory Committee and the Presidential Search Screening and SelectionCommittee, will include students, faculty andadministrators, supporters and donors, the public, and members of the Board ofRegents.

The committees will work with consultants from Isaacson, Miller, theexecutive search firm that has been chosen to help find candidates.
