Huskers Continue SpringDrills
Lincoln,Neb. – The Nebraska football team practiced for two hours infull pads inside the Hawks Championship Center on Wednesday as the Huskerscontinued spring workouts.
Head Coach Bo Pelini addressed the media following practice,highlighting that the Huskers are continuing to implement details on both theoffensive and defensive sides of the ball in preparation for the Spring Game onSaturday, April 12.
"We've had a lot of installation over the last twoweeks," Pelini said. "I think our guys are to the point where theyknow what to do. Now we need to get into the details and the fine points thatare going to allow them to have success."
In addition, Pelini commented on the Huskers' growth on thedefensive line, including sophomore Malik Collins. The Kansas City, Mo., nativewill continue to be looked to as a leader among an impressive group of youngdefensive lineman.
"Malik (Collins) has really had a good camp,"Pelini said. "I think our young defensive linemen are really gettingbetter. Kevin Maurice is doing some good things, and Vincent Valentine hasreally flashed at times. End to end, this group is way ahead of where they werelast year."
The Huskers will have their second live scrimmage of theseason tomorrow as the coaches continue to see growth and competition atvarious positions.
"I'm seeing progress on both sides," Pelini said."I'm seeing guys who are competing, and I think it's been a productiveseven practices to this point. We'll scrimmage tomorrow night and go fromthere."
Pelini also addressed junior Ryne Reeves' injury at practice, stating that theHuskers were taking precautionary measures after Reeves had been complaining ofneck pain.
"Fortunately, Ryan Reeves' dad was here," Pelini said. "Ryan washaving pain in his neck, and anytime you have pain in your neck, we're going totreat it with caution. We think it's precautionary, but we're going to makesure we find out exactly what's going on."
TheHuskers return to the practice field on Thursday for their final practicebefore Spring Break. The squad will return to practice on March 31 inpreparation for its Spring Game, set for Saturday, April 12, at 2 p.m.
