Central Nebraska LGBT Group Sends Sympathy Card to Phelps Family

Posted: Updated:

Fred Phelps, the leader of the Westboro Baptist Church had died.

Phelps' church is famous for protesting at events such as soldier funerals, waving signs with hateful messages directed towards gay people specifically and America in general.

Some have called Fred Phelps the most hated man in America.

However, a local LGBT group is responding to this news not with hate, but with compassion.

PFLAG Hastings sent a sympathy card to Westboro Baptist Church, based in Topeka, Kansas.

A post on the group's Facebook page said they wanted to send a message of "peace and comfort."

Inside the card is a note, expressing "deepest sympathy" for the family's loss.
