Seven people have applied for the open judge seat for the 9th Judicial District, among them is Buffalo County Attorney Shawn Eatherton.
According to the Nebraska Judicial Branch, also applying for the district judgeship were D. Brandon Brinegar, Stacy Nonhof, John Rademacher, Thomas Stewart, Melodie Turner Bellamy, and Melanie Young.
The primary place for the office is in Kearney, where all the applicants are from. The 9th Judicial District consists of both Buffalo and Hall counties.
A public hearing will be held for the review of all applicants on April 9. The hearing is scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m. in Courtroom 3 at the Buffalo County Courthouse, 1512 Central Ave.
The seat is vacant due to the retirement of Judge Graten Beavers.
