Active Community Theater Group Contributes to Opera House Success

Posted: Updated:

An active community theater is just one of the things keeping a centuries-old Nebraska theater thriving.

Sunday, the Minden Community Players presented the musical "Oliver!".

Minden Opera House officials said ticket sales from shows like this are just one of the ways they keep their doors open.

Donors and grants also support the venue, which re-opened in 2000 after being closed for decades.

The opera house's director said the shows draw audience members and actors from all over the area.

"We try to offer stuff that is on par with what you'd see in Kearney or Holdrege or even like in an Omaha," said Marcy Brandt, Minden Opera House executive director. "We try to bring in quality shows that really expand our repertoire so to speak."

Brandt said all these events are good for Minden's economy.

She said, while hosting everything from weddings to proms, it puts the spotlight on what the community has to offer.
