CNH Cuts 200 Positions; Permanent Staff Unaffected

Posted: Updated:

One of central Nebraska's top employers is cutting 200 positions, as orders slow because of lower corn prices.

CNH manufactures Case and New Holland combines in Grand Island.

The company tells NTV it will cut up to 200 positions that were filled by third party agencies, from May 30 to June 30.

They say it's a result of lower orders at the plant.

However, they said in a press release, "No CNH Industrial hourly or salaried employees will be impacted due to this change."

Rivals at John Deere recently announced cutbacks as well.

Corn prices have fallen substantially in the last year, so it's likely farmers are buying fewer combines.

CNH said the announcement concerns only the Grand Island production facility and does not impact any other CNH Industrial locations in the U.S.

CNH has expanded numerous times in recent years at the Grand Island plant, while also increasing staff. The company does not release production numbers, but during a public meeting at Grand Island City Hall last year, said it was building about 30 combines a day at the time.
