Bruning Issues Warning of IRS Scam, Threats of Deportation to Arrest

Nebraska Attorney GeneralJon Bruning has issued a warning to residents, urging them to watch out for aphone scam reported by the IRS.

Victims of the scamhave reported everything from threats of driver's license suspension to arrest anddeportation.

Bruning's officewarned that the calls may seem legitimate because the callers often know thelast four digits of their social security numbers. The scammers demandpayment for taxes owed over the phone and sometimes continue to contact thevictim with bogus follow-up emails.

Bruning's office said this behavior is unlikethe IRS. The organization usually contacts people by mail about un-paid taxes.
