A Hastings toddler has died after sustaining life-threatening injuries when, police say, his uncle ran him over with an SUV.
UNMC confirmed that three-year-old Aldo Yoel Ramirez-Lopez passed away Monday after remaining in critical condition since the accident Saturday night.
Police said it happened at the boy's home, 820 South Pine Avenue, Lot 147.
Authorities believe the toddler was hidden among parked cars as his uncle, 21-year-old Miguel Lopez, drove into the trailer court. The boy was life-flighted to UNMC in Omaha after the incident.
"As he pulled up, he didn't see the young child either come from between or around those vehicles into his and his vehicle struck the child both with the front tires on the left side of the vehicle," said Sgt. Jim Baldwin.
Baldwin said Lopez took the boy to Mary Lanning Hospital before he was transported to Omaha.
Hastings police, with the help of the Nebraska State Patrol, continue to investigate.
