Sens. Mike Johanns and Deb Fischer are cosponsoring legislation that would exempt veterans who receive health care through veterans services from being counted toward a company's full-time workers under the Affordable Care Act.
The legislation would exempt veterans who receive their health care through TRICARE or the Department of Veteran Affairs from being counted toward ACA employer requirements, which mandates all businesses with more than 50 full-time employees must provide health insurance or pay a fee.
Johanns says the Hire More Heroes Act is a win-win for veterans and growing businesses.
"It provides employers with some relief from a costly requirement they've told me personally has prevented them from growing," explained Johanns. "At the same time, it encourages the employment of highly-trained, highly-skilled veterans. Our stagnant economy and job-seeking military heroes will both benefit from this commonsense legislation."
Fischer agreed, saying, "Our nation's veterans havevaluable skills and training to offer employers in Nebraska and across thecountry."
"This legislation provides areprieve for job creators hurting under ObamaCare while also helping to easethe transition of our men and women in uniform back to civilian life, and I'mproud to support it," added Fischer.
In March this same legislation passed the House with a vote of 406-1.
