Kearney Councilman Ordered to Pay Fine for Gambling at State Basketball Tourney

Posted: Updated:

Kearney City Councilman Randy Buschkoetter has pleaded no contest and paid a fine for gambling at the boys state basketball game in Lincoln last month.

Buschkoetter, 49, pleaded no contest Friday in Lancaster County Court to a misdemeanor gambling charge. He was ordered to pay a $200 fine, plus court costs.

Several people reported seeing Buschkoetter transferring money during the tournament at the Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln. Police said they saw Buschkoetter write game totals in his notebook, adding that he wasn't making any effort to cover up his activities.

Buschkoetter's 21-year-old daughter was also cited in the incident, but charges were never filed against her.
