The city of Kearney is working to find ways to ease crowding at the city ball fields.
Between soccer pitches, baseball fields and basketball courts, Kearney boasts about 25 ball fields across town.
Field time can start as early as March, and between adult and youth teams -- in competitive and recreational leagues -- the chance for use of these parks can be short-lived.
"Kearney is a very vibrant community, so I think that growth of sports programs are going to flourish and grow," said Kearney Park and Recreation Director Scott Hayden. "I know we as a city are trying to respond to those needs the best we can to try to maximize the use of fields we currently have."
One way officials are tackling the problem is by introducing a planning grant, to see about the possibility of adding another multi–use complex in Kearney.
