Producers can sign up for several disaster assistance programs
beginning Tuesday, April 15.
Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack says the programs reinstituted by the new farm bill offer four types of assistance.
The livestock forage disaster program and livestock indemnity program are for ranchers who have suffered livestock or grazing losses since 2011.
The emergency assistance for livestock, honeybees and farm–raised fish program offers assistance to producers suffering losses because of disease, severe weather, blizzards and wildfires.
Finally, the tree assistance program is available to help orchardists and nursery tree growers replant trees, bushes and vines damaged by natural disasters.
Producers signing up for these programs are encouraged to
contact their local FSA office for information concerning the types of records
needed to apply for assistance.
