Four-Year-Old Hastings Child Killed In Accidental Shooting

Posted: Updated:

A four–year–old Hastings boy is dead after an accidental rifle shooting.

Officers responded to the scene around 8:20 Friday morning on North Saunders street.

Beau Pecor was taken to Mary Lanning Healthcare where he died.

Preliminary reports indicate the shooting is an accident, and in cases like this the Adams County Attorney says they must follow protocol.

"By statute there are certain things we have to do," said Adams County Attorney Donna Fegler Daiss. "If he died by sudden death, which would be the case here, one thing we're required is to do an autopsy and then there are just certain protocols that law enforcement have on those kinds of circumstances that they have to follow through with."

Daiss says an autopsy has been ordered and officers continue investigating.
