Georgia Radiology Technician Sentenced for Falsifying Mammogram Reports
A former radiology technician who admitted falsifying over 1,000 mammogram reports at a Georgia hospital has been sentenced. The former technician, 33-year-old Rachael Rapraeger, will serve up to six months in a state detention center.
Authorities said Rapraeger used doctors' computer logins to enter negative mammogram results for patients at Perry Hospital for about 18 months from the end of 2008 through early 2010. According to authorities, out of the nearly 1,300 falsified reports 10 of the mammograms were actually positive.
An investigator's report said Rapraeger told police she had personal issues that caused her to stop caring about her job which caused the mammogram files to pile up. Her lawyer said she filled out false reports to avoid having to do the paperwork necessary before the mammograms went to a radiologist.
Some of the women affected by the false reports believe Rapraeger's sentence was too light.
