North Platte Man Gets Prison After Stepson's Near Drowning
A North Platte man has been given three to five years in prison after his 3-year-old stepson nearly drowned while under his care.
Trever Perry was convicted on a felony charge of negligent child abuse resulting in injury. Perry took Landon Schroeder to a pond near North Platte last May, and according to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, Perry being inattentive and not watching Landon for an extended period of time. The young boy was later found underwater about 15 feet from the shoreline.
Authorities say Landon was unresponsive, but Perry did not call for help. They say he instead collected his gear and drove home. Landon's mother took her son to the hospital, after which he was life-flighted to Denver.
