Prices at the Pump Continue to Fall

Posted: Updated:
Gas prices in Nebraska have continued to fall, in the past week the price of a gallon of gas took a five cent cut.

On average, a gallon of gas in the state rang in at $3.47 on Sunday according to GasBuddy.com. The national average also saw a decline, falling 1.8 cents per gallon in the last week. The average rested at $3.62 on Sunday.

Including the change in gas prices in Nebraska during the past week, prices yesterday were 21.3 cents per gallon lower than the same day one year ago and are 9.9 cents per gallon lower than a month ago. Despite the drop in the past week the national average has increased 2.9 cents per gallon during the last month. It now stands 4.9 cents per gallon higher than this day one year ago.

"Pump prices have continued to recede across much of the country, although decreases have been small so far," said GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan.

"The national average peaked in the closing days of April and has moved down a few cents per gallon, and we'll likely continue to see prices dropping as we approach Memorial Day,” he said.

According to experts, it’s all about location.

“California continues to see the largest decreases thanks to increasing supply and falling wholesale prices,” said DeHaan. “On the other hand, Oregon and Washington may see slight increases in prices as supply remains tight.”

Overall, the trend shows lower gas prices across the country.

“The national average by Memorial Day will be between five to 10 cents per gallon lower than today, which would represent a nice decrease over where gasoline prices were on Memorial Day 2013," DeHaan said.
