Kearney's Little League program kicks off a new season with extra enthusiasm by celebrating the diamond anniversary of the international baseball organization.
More than 600 Little League players paraded in front of proud parents and family members, in the first opening ceremony of its kind for the program.
It's a record amount of players in the program, which is now in its 62nd year in town.
And while they define success more than just winning, officials say the amount of participants shows the joy and the love of the sport.
"I think the best part of the whole event is seeing the smiles on these kids faces," said Kearney Little League President Scott Casper. "Seeing the older kids be role models, younger kids looking up to those and just have the joy of life and baseball that Kearney has to offer. "
