Kearney, Neb. – Nebraska-Kearney sophomore right fielder Anthony Pacheco has been named to the 2014 Daktronics All-Central Region first-team.
The team is voted on by sports information directors from within the region; the Central is made up of the MIAA, NSIC (Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) and GAC (Great American Conference).
First-team selections move onto the national ballot where they could earn Daktronics All-American honors.
Pacheco (Kearney Catholic H.S.) was one of only four MIAA players to make the first-team. This year for the 30-19 Lopers, he batted .404 with four HR’s and 38 RBI’s.
One of two Lopers to start all 49 games, he led UNK in batting average, on-base percentage (.459) and sac flys (six) while ranking second in hits (72) and third in slugging percentage (.551) and runs (43).
Other MIAA players on the first-team were outfielders Cody Robinson (Northeastern State) and Brad Wilson (Central Missouri) and starting pitcher Ricky Reeves (Central Oklahoma).
Pacheco, UNK’s cleanup hitter, was just one of five sophomores to make the all-region squad.
Finally, third baseman/pitcher Tony Viger (Augustana) was tabbed Player of the Year with Minnesota State right hander Jason Hoppe the Pitcher of the Year.
