Lincoln Man Gets Probation for Cat's Hatchet Death
A Lincoln man has been given probation for using a hatchet to kill a cat when he was 17 years old.
In November police received a report about a pool of blood in a driveway. Officers twice talked to the teen who lived nearby. During the second interview he said the blood belonged to a cat that got caught in a squirrel trap. He said he couldn't free the cat's leg, so he struck the animal with a hatchet and disposed of it.
During his sentencing Tuesday, the now 18-year-old man was also ordered to write a 250-word essay covering the hunting and trapping laws of Nebraska and South Dakota, where his father lives.
