DeWitt Man Accused of Shooting Man Trying to Break Up a Fight

Police have arrested a 25-year-old DeWitt man believed to be involved in the shooting of another man who was trying to break up a fight.

Zachary Grummert was arrested Wednesday, on suspicion of shooting 28-year-old Joshua Voorhees, of Beatrice.

Witnesses told police Voorhees was shot in the stomach early Wednesday morning after attempting to break up a fight between Grummert and another man who were arguing at a party.

Voorhees had to undergo surgery and is expected to recover.

Grummert remains in the Saline County jail on suspicion of assault and a weapons count.
