Grand Island, NE -
Some exotic animals have checked in to a Grand Island hotel.
Stuffed lions, zebras and bears are all featured at the Nebraska State Taxidermy Convention this weekend.
About 60 taxidermists from six states - some world champions - are competing.
That's down a bit from last years. Organizers said that's likely because of recent show in North Platte, but the quality is not down.
"You can talk hundreds of hours into the pieces and they get down to the fine detail of everything,” said Nate Francis, Nebraska State Taxidermy Association president. There's animals from all over: Africa, North America, Canada. I mean, just anywhere you can imagine there's animals that come in."
Competitors compete in master professional or amateur classes, and participate in seminars while they're here.
You can still see the show Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Grand Island's Midtown Holiday Inn.
