Kearney High School Receives $1.75 Million Gift

Posted: Updated:
Kearney High School has received a $1.75 million gift to add to their new school.

The donation from Scott and Rochelle Morris will allow the school to build a 10,000 square foot addition to promote career and technology education programs.

An idea like this has been in the works for several years. Kearney always wanted something similar to the career path program Grand Island Senior High School has.

“This will allow us to have folks that want to move on and be auto mechanics to work shoulder to shoulder with those who want to be engineers, this will create that sort of environment,” said Superintendent Dr. Brian Maher.

Early designs of the addition show three different labs: auto, metals and wood shop. Principal Jay Dostal thinks this will add to a student’s education.

“They are going to do some real life projects and some hands on projects. Learning to really help them find out if this is what they want to do with the rest of their life,” said Dostal.

This addition changes the plans they were working on and Kearney High School should have construction plans finalized in three months.
