With the city of Kearney growing, a housing development has decided to build more homes after a six year stall.
In 2008 there were plans to build a new housing complex in northwest Kearney, but the economy slowed it down.
The City Council approved plans Tuesday night to start work to build those homes. They now have 19 of acres of land to work with. On this land they will build 24 single-family homes and three duplexes. These family homes will be very similar to and adjacent to the light house properties.
They hope to have phase 2 approved sometime in the future, which would include the addition of assisted living homes and have some commercial development.
Construction of the 27 properties is set to begin next summer.
