Update: Hastings Building Collapse Blocks Busy Street
By Sara Kirkley, Weekend Anchor / Reporter - email
A building collapse closed a lane of Hastings’ busy Burlington Ave. on Sunday.
An unused building next door to Long John Silvers fell around 4 p.m. Hastings Fire officials say the property is owned by Linweld, and the gas and welding distribution company was already considering tearing it down.
Firefighters think recent rains and damaging winds may have caused the already sagging roof to give out completely.
Police say debris fell across three of Burlington’s four lanes, and was cleaned up, but the southbound lane closest to the property will be closed through the night into Monday as a precaution from more debris.
