Blue Cross Blue Shield presented a $12,200 grant to the Kearney YMCA Wednesday for their diabetes prevention program.
The Kearney YMCA has one of the top prevention programs in the nation.
Obesity is a growing problem and is one of the major factors in diabetes. In classes that are just for people diagnosed as pre-diabetic, the average class participant in Kearney loses 7 percent of their body weight.
This grant will allow the YMCA to get train more coaches. In the program, they work to teach individuals ways to change their diet as well as appropriate cardio exercises.
Blue Cross Blue Shield will be giving two more grants for diabetes prevention programs. In a couple weeks they will give grants in Grand Island.
