Kearney County Controversy

Posted: Updated:
In a span of two weeks the future Veterans Service Officer was hired, fired and rehired. Sonja Budd was hired for the position.

The only problem was the Veterans Service Committee and Board of Supervisors did not follow the rules while hiring her. They hired Budd without interviewing any applicants.

Once the board realized their mistake, they started the process all over. The past two days, the board of supervisors interviewed applicants who applied for the position.

This morning, they announced Budd will be the future Veterans Service Officer.

“It hasn’t been real stressful. I’ve kind of gone along with it and whatever they decided, I would be happy with,” said Budd.

Budd worked two years at the Pentagon, participated in office procedure classes and was part of the Health and Human Services in Kearney.
