Kearney Fireworks Stands Start Seven Days of Sales

Posted: Updated:
Fireworks stands are up and running, even getting an extra day this year in Kearney, despite some community opposition.

"Since it lands on two weekends, I think that sales are going to go up. There's gonna be a lot more banging in town," said Hometown Fireworks stand manager Zach Kennedy.

That's the consensus of one of several fireworks stand managers in town, as sales started on Saturday.

It's the first year Kearney has allowed sales to be seven days instead of six.

While some say they're not expecting much of a difference in sales, they do add that the economy still plays a role.

"It's tough. The economy, when we first did this 10 years ago we sold a lot more, then in the middle not so good, but starting to get better," said Marv's Fireworks stand manager Brady Barrett. "People, especially Kearney people love their fireworks so they're going to buy them."

Sales also kicked off in Grand Island on Saturday. In Hastings, firework stands opened on Friday.
