Nebraska hardware stores help charity fan program

Posted: Updated:

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - A chain of hardware stores is pitching in to help the less fortunate in Nebraska beat the summer heat.

Westlake Ace Hardware has teamed up with the Omaha Salvation Army to help the charity supply electric fans to low-income seniors, qualified families with children and adults with disabilities.

The Omaha-area chain is kicking off the "Salvation Army Fan Drive" with a donation of 50 box fans.

From July 19 through Aug. 3, all Omaha and Lincoln Westlake Hardware stores, as well as one in Council Bluffs, Iowa, will collect donations for the cause. For every dollar raised during the two-week period, Westlake Hardware will purchase fans at-cost for the Salvation Army fan program.
