AMIRA Nature Foods Ltd (NYSE: ANFI), one of India’s top rice exporter, is expecting its role to increase rapidly in the coming few quarters in the global rice market. AMIRA, which is the only Indian FMCG company to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange, is aggressively eyeing expansion of business both within India and globally.
Mr. Karan Chanana, Chairman & CEO of AMIRA Foods, recently spoke about the company’s stellar performance in the last financial year in which it saw its revenue touch $550 million. He emphasised that organic growth by increasing AMIRA’s distribution footprint in India will hold the key to company’s success in reaching out to India’s growing middle class. The company recently expanded its distribution centers in India to eight cities in 2014. All eight of these centers are company-managed distribution centers, which is expected to play a role in greater market penetration and higher margins for the company. As part of its Global plans, AMIRA plans to increase its global footprint from the 40 countries currently to over 70 countries by 2017. The brand is available not only in the Indian Sub-Continent but also in the entire Middle East, United States of America, Europe, and South Asia through a broad distribution network. Apart from rice, the company recently expanded its product portfolio into organic, snacks and ready to eat food.
AMIRA sells Basmati rice, which is a premium long-grain rice grown only in certain regions of the Indian sub-continent, under their flagship ‘Amira’ brand as well as under other third party brands. AMIRA Nature Foods was founded in 1915, and since then it has evolved into a leading global provider of branded and packaged Indian specialty rice, with sales in over 40 countries today.
