A local horse rescue operation puts on the feedbag, all to raise money and awareness for their cause.
Friday's event is the first ever barbecue cook-off and all you can eat dinner to help pay for feed, hay and veterinarian expenses which can range up to 20 thousand dollars.
In just over 3 years, the organization has helped re–home and rehabilitate more than 400 horses.
"We've had several that have come in and where we didn't know if they'd make it they're too skinny," said rescue director Jami Salter. "And we've turned around and rehabilitated them and had them come out as kids horses, so just because they come in looking rough and out of shape doesn't mean they're not a good horse."
Double –R–Ranch horse rescue is the only organization in Buffalo County, and only one of two in the state. Organizers hope to raise $3,000.
