Pilger residents expect rebuilding to bring change

Posted: Updated:

PILGER, Neb. (AP) - Rebuilding plans for the northeast Nebraska town ravaged by a tornado last month got a boost when the Farmers Co-operative committed to restore its Pilger grain elevator.

Co-op manager Aaron Becker tells The Norfolk Daily News (http://bit.ly/W0pzmY ) he never questioned whether the grain elevator would be rebuilt after the June 16 tornado. That's welcome because the co-op was Pilger's largest employer.

Blueprints for the new co-op have already been completed, and new grain bins are on the way. Becker says he hopes to have the elevator operational before harvest.

Becker says he knows Pilger will be much different after rebuilding because roughly three-quarters of the town was damaged, but he's optimistic about the future.
