Authorities say a man suspected of beating his wife shot himself inside a North Platte home as officers were approaching to make an arrest.
The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office says the shooting occurred late Tuesday night at the Patriot Mobile Home Park.
North Platte police were called to the home after receiving a report of a physical disturbance. Upon arrival they discovered a woman who was bleeding from the head. She said her husband, 26-year-old Christopher Tidball, had kicked her and attacked her with a lamp. She was taken to Great Plains Health.
Tidball had fled from the home before officers arrived. They were notified later that evening that he had returned home.
Officers reported that as they made their way up to the home they heard a gunshot from inside.
Tidball was taken to Great Plains Health and then transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney for life-threatening injuries.
The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.
